3 Fun Ways To Use Antique Salvage In Your Home Decor

Antique salvage in home decor is extremely popular right now. It can bring in some history to a newer home and give it some added character.

So what exactly IS antique salvage? It’s salvaged pieces from older architecture, like window frames, or even antique items, like an old butter churn.

There are endless ways to incorporate these types of antiques in your home. And It not only adds a sense of “je ne sais quoi” to otherwise ordinary decor it’s also a really fun and creative way to recycle and reuse!

Since you’re probably new to this, we’ll start with some basics and then you can expand from there once you get a feel for what you like.

  1. Build New Furniture

You can buy old doors at an antique shop for less than $100. You might be thinking “how in the world can I use doors to make furniture?” Very easily and without a ton of effort! Find a door you like, sand it down, and add some legs to turn it into a gorgeous dining table, or even a funky coffee table. You could also use an ornate mantle piece, paint it however you like, fit it around a boring tufted headboard and viola! You have a brand new, and more interesting, headboard for your bed!

2. Create Your Own Piece Of Art

You know those artistic pieces of decor you find in the craft stores? They are normally very expensive and probably not that well made. (No Thanks) You can easily make it yourself, with beautiful pieces of salvage you can find at flea markets. For instance, you could use decorative wrought iron window bars, place them over a mirror and you have an original piece to hang in your home. You could also find antique signs from old farmers markets and hang them in your kitchen for a farmhouse feel.

3. Repurpose Old Home Items

Add some interest to your home by repurposing antique items. For example you can use an old enamel pitcher or even old milk bottles to hold flowers. If you like to display photos, you could use an old window as a multiple picture frame or you could clip photos to an old shutter for a different way to display your pictures.

There are literally thousands of ways you could use antique salvage to decorate your home. The only requirement is your own creativity.
